Artists at Work

Today Room 1 worked with Mrs Syme.  She is a real maths wizz (which everyone knows) but she is also responsible for most of the fantastic artwork on display in Room 1.  Here we are busy at work on our next art project...come in and visit our class in Week 10 (Cluster Visual Arts Week) to see the finished product!

Wicked Writers and Researchers!

We have had heaps of fun researching 'the good old days' and produced some timelines.  Here are a mixture of facts from some of the students timelines.  Did you know...

1970:  The Attack of the Killer Tomatoes movie was released.  It is about a whole lot of tomatoes that kill people.  By Harry

1971:  Suits and pants were an acceptable fashion for woman to wear.  It was a time when women went a bit crazy with fashion!  By Caleb N.

1972:  David Bowie released an album called Ziggy Stardust.  By Leilani

1975:  Jaws was the hit movie of 1975.  It tells the story of a great white that begins to cause menace on the Island of Amity.  By Grace

1976:  An aircraft capable of supersonic passenger flight had been manufactured for military purposes only but in 1976 the Concorde became available for commercial purposes.  By Kobe

1977:  After a shambolic US tour Sid Rotten announced the break up of the Sex Pistols. By Savannah

1978:  Bob Marley and the Wailers were a great band.  They really took reggae to the International Stage.  By Jermaine

1979:  The hottest ever Plymouth of 1979 was the Plymouth Super Bird - it was a custom built hot rod.  By Caleb J

1982:  ET was released and it surpassed Star Wars to become the most financially succesful film to that point in time.  By Paiki

Do You Wish the Holidays Were Longer?

Take a look at some of the brochures created by the students in Room 1 about their holidays.  Some of them have had to work hard to 'sell the idea' of staying home for the holidays and being a little bit bored, missing your friends and - I can hardly believe what I'm reading here - wanting to come back to school!!

A bit of light hearted humour meant the students could make even the most boring holiday activities sound like fun!

MONDAY MORNING TEA - IS THAT SNOW OUTSIDE I SEE?

Yep - it's snow alright!  So we rugged up and went outside to play!  Of course - it wasn't the kind of snow you could roll snowballs in - but that didn't stop some of the students in Room 1 attempting snow angels!!

BOOGIE WONDERLAND WONDERWALL!

We have put our 'wonderings' into an interview format and Leilani has come back with 5 pages of information from her Mum! She must have great memories from the 'good old days!'  These envelopes have our questions on them and we post our parents answers into them.  I can't wait to read the responses AND hopefully have a giggle over some of the photos that come in!

Tricky Tuesday!

Hey there everyone.  Well this week is already speeding by.  On Monday I (Miss G) went to a course in Wanganui all about Restorative Practice.  I hope that some of what I learnt at the course will show through in my teaching practice.

Today we were full-on!  First we welcomed a new student - TJ.
We had buddy reading (see pic's below) for the first time this term and I shared a favourite book of mine called 'Press Here' I have added it to our bookcase.  It's a real goodie!

This afternoon we began working on our Advertisements from the 70's recreations.  The links to them are alongside this blog to help students with this project.

Righto - off to prepare for the Bulls School Quiz night now - wish our team "From Outta-Bulls" luck!

Take care, call back and visit again soon!

Web Links:

Hi there!
Today I have had release time and Room 1 have been very busy with Mrs Syme - working through their literacy programme, using protractors as a part of their geometry and measurement work and designing some costumes for art.

I on the other hand have been doing...school stuff!  One of the things I did was add the links to great Literacy and Numeracy websites to our Blog.  Keep coming back and visiting this site as I will add other great links as I find out or hear about them.

I am off home soon and calling into a Feilding business (DJ Sports) that has given us a spot prize for our quiz night coming up on Tuesday.  If you know people who think they are particularly clever at this kind of thing get them to put in a team!

Ka kete!

Mighty Mathematicians at Work!

Hi again, today we finally managed to get a whole class maths rotation happening without any interruptions!  We are looking more closely at statistics - in particular graphing as well as working with patterns in number (Algebra).  We regularly use Jenny Ether's Maths Dictionary which we find very useful!

Another day bites the dust!

Well we have been furiously busy from dawn till dusk (almost) again today.  We started off with a bit of Jump Jam and we didn't really get a chance to snooze again for the rest of the day!  Some of us had ICAS English, Mathex Training, Ukelele Practice and BP Tech Challenges - so snoozing definately wasn't an option!

Take care all - Miss Gee.
