Mrs Frisby and The Rats Of Nimh by Robert C OBrien

We are about to finish our class novel and I will give one little clue away.  The mice DO NOT end up like the greedy one in our You Tube clip does!

Check it out in our 'gadgets' list.

WARNING:  No animals were harmed in the production of this video - it is all camera trickery!

We have a fantastic lesson in the early morning sun with our YMCA stars!  It was a bit slippery though - see if you can spot some photo evidence of the dew on the grass!

Rainy Day Lunch Times!

We have been quite lucky this term - and haven't had ALOT of these - thank goodness!

YMCA - Stars!

Our first lesson with the Stars from YMCA in Whanganui was great.  We did have to work in the Scout Hall - which is not as ideal as working outside - but we still learnt alot!

First - we warmed up in 3 groups - we did zippy warm up type activities and rotated around.
Second - we learnt that our focus was on sprints.  (Shot Puts are apparently not ideal inside!)
Third - we looked at styles of running and figured out the best most efficient pose for sprint running.  (Running with you arms above your head or your hands dragging on the ground ARE NOT efficient running styles).
Fourth - we practised a series of sprints from point A - point B in teams.

It was a great first session and room 1 are looking forward to session 2.

Miss G wanted to join in but spent most of her time trying to get decent photos!

GREAT WEEKEND OF RUGBY!

Well - the All Blacks did the job we wanted them to do - bring on the French this Saturday.  And the Irish did a pretty good job of things too!

Hope you are all enjoying the Rugby World Cup extravaganza!  Some of our senior students are going to organise something to 'celebrate' as a school - watch this space!

Monday morning sees the return of YMCA to our school.  This time the focus is on Athletics Skills - which will be fabulous for our end of year Athletics Sports Day.

See you all tomorrow, Miss G.

Spelling Testing!

A little reminder - get practising the tricky words on your lists guys - your mission is to chase Maddie to level 25!

Also - another reminder - bring your Positive Puberty books back tomorrow so we can continue our discussions!  Miss G & Miss Jervis are starting to get the hang of these lessons!

Don't forget there are some excellent links to websites with great information further down the page!

Positive Puberty!

Yesterday the Year 7 & 8's began four weeks study around Positive Puberty.  Its a great subject for inquiry learning - because there is SOOOO much to wonder about!  Our classroom display depicts a Roller Coaster.  This is representative of the roller coaster ride that pubertal change takes us through - lots of ups and downs and a few curly wurly twists - but once we begin the journey we cannot just 'STOP' and get off - its a ride we are on until the journey ends (and another begins!)

Soooo....thanks goodness for Pubertal Pete (Miss G's anonymous questions box).  This means we can ask the curly wurly questions without getting all red faced and embarrassed!

Bring on lesson 2!

Miss G and Miss Jervis!

RUGBY WORLD CUP - NO MORE SLEEPS!

Well I'm excited!  I have shared my 'World Cup Plans' with the students.  A group of us are taking turns at hosting each All Black game - we set the theme based on the teams that are playing.  Kris and I are kicking off the first night with - All Blacks vs Tonga!!  It should be great fun!

Many of my students are getting involved by taking part in the Running of the Bulls in the Bulls Township this Saturday.  The day will have a South African theme - with an African BBQ one of the foods on offer!  Sounds delicious!  Other students have parents organising great gatherings of friends to cheer on the All Blacks - so we are all going to be getting behind the boys in black!!

Hope you all have something exciting planned - enjoy the weekend - and lets hope we are all still smiling 6 weeks from now!! :-)
